How To Test Your Stream ​

A soundcheck is a private test run of your stream. It's unlisted and reachable only by its own link, it never shows up in Slipmat's listings, it doesn't mark you as live, and it isn't part of your event history. Use it to hear and see exactly what your audience would, before there is an audience.

Run a soundcheck ​

  1. Open Soundcheck in your artist menu, under Plan — https://slipmat.io/artist/stream/ — and start one before you connect your streaming software. A soundcheck can only start when nothing else of yours is live.
  2. Connect your encoder using the Streaming Server URL and Stream Key shown on the same page. Your video appears on the soundcheck page once the stream connects.
  3. Open the soundcheck page and listen. Share the link if you'd like a second pair of ears.
  4. Watch it in the Stream Dashboard, which runs a soundcheck like any other event. The ring shows whether Slipmat is receiving your stream, and anything it finds wrong — low audio bitrate, mono audio, no audio, an unsuitable resolution, dropped frames — is listed underneath. Fix those in your encoder now: your listeners get exactly the stream the dashboard is checking.
  5. End soundcheck when you're done. If you forget, Slipmat ends it 15 minutes after the last stream disconnects.

Start the soundcheck first

Start the soundcheck, then connect your stream. The other way round and you may go live for real — with no scheduled event of yours starting soon, a connecting stream begins an ad hoc event.
