Song Requests & Shout-outs

During an event, your listeners can ask you to play a song and send you shout-outs. Listeners browse your own music, so the first step happens well before the event: get your music into Slipmat.

Your tracks are in your Track Collection: https://slipmat.io/artist/collection/. Use Import playlist and choose an export from your DJ software. Slipmat reads CSV, TXT and NML exports from Engine DJ, Rekordbox, Serato, Traktor and VirtualDJ.

Import one large export of all your music, or import separate exports, for example a trance playlist and a house playlist. Then you can offer only the trance playlist at a trance event.

An import uploads, then processes, then it is ready. After that, Slipmat matches your tracks against its music database to add artist photos and details for the listeners. This matching is slow, but it never blocks anything. Listeners can request a track as soon as it is imported.

Song requests & Shout-outs is in the event form, when you schedule the event and later under Edit event. When you turn it on, you get these settings:

  • Song requests and Shout-outs: choose one of them or both. With shout-outs only, listeners send you messages but no song requests.
  • Max submissions per listener: 3 by default, 0 for no limit. It counts everything that a listener sent you. When you play or dismiss a request, the listener does not get another turn.
  • Anonymous requests: people can request without an account, from the event’s page before you go live. They choose a name and get five requests each. Voting and audio shout-outs are only for signed-in listeners.
  • Spotify search: off by default. Turn it on if you can play anything from Spotify on the spot. Listeners can then request tracks that you do not own.
  • Tracks people can browse: Track Collection offers all your tracks. Most artists want this. To offer less, choose playlists. If you choose playlists but select none, listeners have nothing to browse. They can only write a request in their own words, or send a shout-out.

Requests are in the Stream Dashboard. The switch on the tool rail opens and closes requests. Manage opens the queue.

Mark each request Played, Queued (your promise to play it), Unavailable or Dismiss. To use a handled request again, click Reopen.

The filters show only some of the open requests:

  • Present: requesters who are still in the room.
  • Unserved: people you have not played anything for yet.
  • Unqueued: requests that you have not queued.
  • Active: requesters who listen now.
  • Shout-out: requests with a shout-out.

The same screen has the per-listener limit, the tracks people can browse, and Print QR code: a code that the room can scan.

Requests close when the event ends. When you resume an event, requests stay closed. To use them again, turn them on.
